Mike from Trash Busters, please stop. I have nothing for you. You call me all the time and you really shouldn’t. How do you know you’ll be in my neighbourhood anyway? Is this some kind of veiled “I know where you live” threat? Stalk much?
News flash for people who call me: I know immediately when it’s a nuisance/sales call. I can tell, even without call display. How? The phone rings. No human I know actually calls me on that line. Oh sure, I’d like them to, but it would screw up my spam-recognition abilities.
Anyhow. Here are the numbers of some nuisance callers. I implore my readership not to exact creative revenge. Contribute more, if you like. Sadly, my new living situation has no call display.

Again, I’ve given up on having a land line because of the abuse, but I’m still running this site (browse around, there’s more than just this page) and everyone would appreciate new information.

Thanks for the insite, I’ve been wondering who keeps calling from 800 831-9519, and like you choose not to answer it on the grounds that if it’s important, “leave me a message!”.

thanks ever so much. I got a call just now (416.924-0280) and am so glad that I never answered on time. Yesterday three calls came in and when I picked up no answer, figured they were marketing or something but now am having trouble with unknown callers. I just do not think that they should be allowed to do this by not at least showing their number.

Ugh 866-615-5583 has been calling me for weeks and has never left a message. At least now I know I’m not the only one getting a call from this number!

Oh wild…I actually just did an internet search on 866-615-5583, and this blog came up…so I find out I’m not the only one getting annoying calls on my cell from that unlisted number that NEVER leaves messages! I got 5 just today…it’s probably one of the credit card companies or the bank trying to get me to buy balance insurance or something. :)
I guess the rational thing to do would be to just pick up, but a perverse side of me enjoys the dance of avoidance.

just so you all know, i have been getting the calls (1-866-615-5583) but not been home but seen the multiple times they call…per day…so tonight after enjoying only half of an ice cold beer, a long day after baking in long weekend traffic for the last hour to get home…..they called…hehehe…unfortunately for the guy on the other end, i had more questions for him then me…this is how the systems work, its a computer dialing numbers….after you say hello 2 times or more it will send to an operator/telemarketer…or they are listening and if they get a answering machine they hang up… 5 plus calls and no messages…various companies use the system and they all funnel through a couple root numbers (see the original post) hence why so many calls from one number, could be different callers/companies each time, tonights winner was RBC LIFE INSURANCE…soo…the all mighty question, how do you remove yourself from THE LIST????
easy, call the number that calls you and follow the instructions to remove your number from the system…i will try and let you know….enjoy the long weekend….and hopefully stop all of the harrassing telemarketers..
marinate on that telemarketers! :P

Hi! I also have been getting calls from that 866-615-5583 number a couple of times a day on my cell for the last week! They called me five times today!!! They never leave a message, so i don’t bother to pick it up….but today i decided to answer it. I said hello 2 times, and after a short pause the guy on the other end asked to speak to “Matthew Someone”( i can’t remember the last name he said). I told him he had the wrong number and all he said was “oh sorry” and he hung up! You would think that if he really wanted to talk to this “Matthew” guy he would have left a message or at least not keep calling a person whose answering machine said that “You’ve reached Claudia” (not matthew!!) I don’t know who or what these people are after, but it seems a little suspicious! Especially now that i know i’m not the only one getting multiple calls from these people!!! Don’t you just love telemarketers ;-)

1-877-669-1935 is a long distance calling service (Startec Canada) that offers a low rate to call China. I never hear a voice on the other end of the phone but they call me several times a week.
And 514-693-6300 Quebec is a number that has come up a few times on my call display (and when i answer no one is there) and when i put it in to a internet search i found out this: it’s a number Administration system what is this? and why are they calling me? i have included the web page i found the 514 number on.

Searched “888-265-2422″ at clusty.com and “http://blog.elinc.ca/rod/?page_id=84″ was returned. I see that “Innovative Research” is associated with the number. FYI: My call display telephone shows “NRG Research” along with the number “1-888-265-2422″. I have call answer on my phone, picking up after four rings, but no message was left. Probably dialing the gaps in sequences in the “Who Called Me Directory” searching for unpublished numbers amongst the not-in-service numbers, for my number is unpublished. Not very innovative research methodology in my book.

Wow, great info. Just received a call from 604-676-4372, googled it and your page came up. What we do here is when they ask for someone, we tell them they’re dead and to never call back. For the most part it works :)
November 17th, 2005 at 1:37 pm
Well, I am glad you made this page!! The Royal Bank 866-615-5583 has called SOOOO many times! When I answer it, they do their spiel, then I say NO THANK YOU and PLEASE DONT CALL BACK! Guess what… They call back twice a week. Now, if you call the number back and enter your phone number, they will take you off their list! Thank God! Sean.

Received several calls from 800-831-9693 over the past few days. It’d be easier to figure out if they’d say something.

I have been getting calls from this number 1-866-615-5583 for about a week now, the caller’s won’t respond
after a few hello’s and hungs up automatically without any conversation. Weired.
However, i came to know that i am not the only one who get calls from this number.

I have been receiving annyoing calls from this number 1-866-615-5583 from the past
one week.I figured out that its a automated tele-marketing number calling me!!!
In order to “GET RID” of the caller, just call back the number, when PROMPTED
add your number to REMOVE from the calling list.
Peace!

866-615-5583….. UGH! I have received too many calls, at least 4-5 days a week, and I tried once to have my number removed, but it didn’t work (about 1 month ago.) I have tried again tonight, and will hope it actually gets it right this time. Can anyone else say if it has stopped once you call back and go through the automated removal prompts?
Cheers,

Thanks, (514) 876-9224 kept calling here and i was never home… Now I know it’s nothing important. Why do all they have an unlisted number anyways?? makes no sense to me…

I have been getting about 2 calls per day from 800-831-9693 for the past 3 weeks. When I first saw the 800 number on my call display I suspected it was some telemarketing scam, so I did not answer. The calls kept coming, sometimes as many as 3 or 4 times a day. I was unsuccessful in tracing the source through traditional reverse phone lookup engines, but came across this page through Google and noticed that the offensive number is on your list. After reading some of the comments from others, I figured I would try calling these clowns to have my number removed from their list… The answering service told me it was Gemma Communications and that they were working for “Fortune 500 companies”… Yeah, whatever !
Anyway, I gave my number, let’s see if they honor their claim and the calls stop after 48 hours.

Is there anything we can do to counter “harass” these telemarketers or fight them back in a very convenient method? I have been waken up several times in the past week or so — I tend to get up late in the morning or around noon because of my work schedule, but this telemarketer calls me in early morning.
If I can catch the CEO right now, I will curse him/her to death! Why don’t laws require these firms to behave? Why DON’T our telephone companies offer the sevice to stop “SPAM” phone calls, like our mail servers do?
Next time I see this # calling me again, the only chance I iwll pick it up is to yell at the other end of line, but what’s the use to do so towards a low end poor worker who is hired and paid just minimum wages?
December 10th, 2005 at 7:02 am
I received a call on 12-9-05 telling me they wanted to confirm my presciption order for
refill on my medication. Clever way to rip someone off. They have a do not call registry
for home phones users, which I still receive telemarketing calls on but this was a spam call on my cell phone. It pisses me off they even have this number and it seems there is no recorse to make these people stop ripping folks off.
I too, did a google search and found this page.

I have been getting calls on my Callwave from 888-265-2422. Been getting them for weeks. I called the number and the message identifed them as Energy Research Field Center. I have reported them and their 15 calls to the DNC Registry. Will let you know if they cease and desist!
December 19th, 2005 at 6:29 pm
I have been receiving daily calls from 866-615-5583. I pretended to be interested and the person calling quickly asked for my account# and bank card number to “sign me up”. I suggest anyone receiving calls from this number NOT to provide such information and NOT call the a/n number to leave your number to “remove yourself from the list”. This is a telemarketing fraud at its finest.
I suggest anyone who received this call to do the following (I have done all 3):
1) Lodge a complaint to RBC Customer Relation. Their number can be found at: http://www.rbc.com/customercare/complaint-step2.html
2) File a complaint at http://www.phonebuster.com (*note by MT: this site apparently does not exist anymore)
3) File a police report on recol.ca

hey,
looks like we all should join hands in fighting against all these telemarketing companies. I have been receiving calls from startec (non-stop). The irony here is they always ask for one particular name, who doesn’t exist. Now when i tell them there is no-one in that name, they ask me for my name, which i never gave away. THe last time i got really pissed as they called me 6 times in a row and i finally started yelling at those i guys, i spoke to their supervisor to put my name in do not call list, which he promised he will do but he needs my name..yeah right. I gave my name as ” charlie brown” and guess what, i am receiving calls again, for “Mr.Charlie Brown”. I called my telephone provider, and they told me they can’t do nothing about it as it is a 1-800 series no. They asked to me to call Startec. In addition, the CSR told me that he will put me in do not contact list and asked me to do the same here:
http://www.the-cma.org/consumer/donotcontact.cfm
I know one thing for sure that it is plainly ethnic targeted as most of the people i speak to have a strong accent and i believe they do not call from canada.
I went through all those sites mentioned in the blog, however no specific solution exists, which is a bad thing. Well, some interesting ideas i got from here:
http://www.peiinfo.ca/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2726&view=next&sid=993a757f26bca80bfd464d55859927e4
may be i will get one of those airhorns and keep it near my phone.

I just wanted to say thanks for creating this list. Most of these annoying numbers do not even have a voice mail so one can request to be taken OFF THE f^%$^$n’ call list !!

Thanks for the info… I contacted CIBC (ref 514-876-9224 CIBC credit card services (174)) and they claim they are not associated with the number at all. These (&^$#&^@$) have called dozens of times looking for somone else and I have told the to stop calling. I am glad I do not have the same problems you have noted on your site.
I appreciate your help…

See No. 24 where I have written previously. As promised I reported NRG Research or whomever they are to the Do Not Call Registry. After about 5 days I receive NO MORE calls from them. Today (Jan 25, 2006), I received a letter from the FCC informing me that they have issued them a warning and could be subject to up to $11,000.00 per violation. I reported at least 5 incidents. Please report these !#$# to the FCC. The FCC wants to collect that $11K per incident. I have never had repeat calls from anyone or any business that I reported including my own phone company who really didn’t like it!!!! The FCC can’t fine my phone company because we have an established “business relationship” as it is my phone company, but the phone company decided it was cheaper to take me off their calling lists so as not to have to pay their lawyers to write the FCC and explain away the complaints. Here is the link to the Do Not Call Registry: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/donotcall/#howtocomplain
Good Luck

Regarding 877-990-3599…
The call originates from a Toronto based hardware seller that uses a survey veneer to disguise what is a blatant telemarketing call. The company is called Pcstats.com and it is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rydium Canada, Inc. Rydium Canada heads a marketing ring. The corporate addresses are:
Rydium Canada Inc.
366 Adelaide St. W. Suite 600
Toronto, ON M5V-1R9 CA
The CEO’s email address is srdennis@rydium.com. Responsible for scads of pop-ups, etc. He deserves some quality time from the people whose time he wastes. Rydium is privately held; this guy (Sam Dennis) calls the shots. His philosophy is “your time is my money”.
PC Stats
317 Adelaide West #400
Toronto, ON M5V-1P9
If you wish to serve legal papers:
MCCARTHY TETRAULT LLP, REPRESENTATIVE FOR SERVICE
SUITE 4700
TORONTO DOMINION BANK TOWER
TORONTO-DOMINION CENTRE
TORONTO
ONTARIO M5K 1E6
I have asked the Feds for an opinion on the applicability/enforcability of the “No-Call” law vis a vis these corps., as they are Canadian (…you hosers :-)).

Hi,
A google search led me here when I looked up a number. Your site has boosted my spirits. I’m on a quest to stop the same pharmacies that have been calling me for the past 3 years. I’ve been on the DoNotCall registry since Sept 2005. I’ve threatened, reasoned, cajoled, hung up, cursed, blown a whistle into the phone, and said “I will never EVER buy anything from you due to 3 years of harrassment. Are you just stupid? What don’t you understand? I bet I could clarify it for you.” Nothing stops them.
This takes some major mental energy which I had lost the past couple of days. Now I’m refreshed and encouraged.
Thank you again.

February 13th, 2006 at 8:30 pm
Hi.
Like “Jessica”, I just received a call (one that I know of)from 877-990-3599 on the call display and just entered that number in to the search bar on Google and came to your web site. Great site to find the little pesky so-and-sos who think that it’s necessary to call me during my dinner time. Well, I’ve got the way to stop them from calling – right off the T.V. In an episode of Seinfeld, a telemarketer calls and Gerry simply tells them that he’s busy and if they leave him THEIR home number, he’ll call them back to complete their survey. Obviously, they decline and he asks “why”. “Is it so you don’t get bothered while you’re trying to eat your dinner?”. “Click” on the other end. End of problem.
Don’t apologise to these people when they call you, in the privacy of your home. Don’t tell them “no” over and over again. (Side note. After telling a telemarketer “no” three times, any persistance on their part thereafter is “legal harassment”.) Just tell them “no, no, no” (to cover the bases) and then ask for their supervisor and tell then to remove your number from “the list”.

514-876-9224, 5 times a day call from corrupt canadians.
February 28th, 2006 at 12:17 pm
I have received calls from 1-866-615-5583 like 6-7 times a day mostly after 5pm. No one ever answers. I have tried calling it back and taking my numbero off the service.. that doesn’t work. I have done it like 6 times – to no success.
I called the royal bank life insurance – they have told me that it is not one of their numbers. that they have no idea where the calls are coming from.
This is so frustrating… grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
February 28th, 2006 at 2:01 pm
I just want to say thanks for creating this list. I can’t stand telemarketers, but I’m too chicken to say that to them personally, so I just don’t answer the phone if I suspect that it’s a telemarketer (thank goodness for call display!). I’ve been getting SOOO many calls (many times a day) from 514-876-9224 that I was starting to worry it could be something serious. But this list reassured me that it’s just another annoying telemarketer that I can go ahead and continue to ignore in good conscience. Thanks again!
March 9th, 2006 at 6:34 pm
The 1-866-615-5583 has been calling me quite while ago for around 5 times a day during the lunch time. I never has the chance to answer the phone. Google the no. and I was directed to this site. Thanks for the site to let me know that the call is from a telemarketer. I tried call the no. back to take my number off the calling list, but it did not work. They kept calling me. Finally I had the chance to answer the phone. I just told the lady called me that Jessie did live here anymore. It workes!!! They stop calling me since then!!!
March 9th, 2006 at 8:24 pm
THANK YOU for creating this page! I have taken to googling strange numbers when they come up on my call display, and my searches keep bringing me to this very helpful page. It’s a huge relief to be able to effectively screen my calls.

like rita (#23), i received a call from 800-801-5468 with the indian-accented operator telling me they wanted to refill my

March 15th, 2006 at 6:04 pm
In regards to the number 1-866-615-5583, judging by what “vancouver_harrassed” said here, I would suspect nothing less than identity thieves seeking additional information, which is much worse than annoying telemarketers. And yes, many also work in teams. They most likely have nothing to do with RBC Financial Group. They could choose to pretend to be some other company, simply on a whim. It seems like a classic phishing scheme to me, but done over the phone instead of on-line. BEWARE
March 16th, 2006 at 7:04 pm
Glad I put the 514-876-9224 into the google.ca websearch because I didn’t even know there were sites like these out there. I have had many calls from companies like CIBC credit card services or even Primus trying to sell you extra features or services. Crazy thing is THEY NEVER LEAVE MESSAGES! Time to send off another nasty email to get myself off the caller list. I will keep this list for the future though just in case I get further unknown numbers. Thanks.
March 21st, 2006 at 4:07 pm
Wow. I just googled 514 693 6300 and came up with this site. I have answered the call (once) and a man identified himself as being with a health care organization in Argentina involved in medical tourism. Seems like any legit company wouldn’t be using this “fake” phone number. Anyway my phone rings at least once a day from this number and it is quite annoying. Thanks for your site.
March 23rd, 2006 at 1:39 pm
514-876-9224 is Aeroplan not CIBC.
March 24th, 2006 at 4:26 pm
Hey guys:
I just got a call from famous 1-866-615-5583 number. I have adopted a very strict policy of not picking up any 800-866-877 or any goddamn 8.. number. Guess thats where call-display pays off. Googled that number right away and came here.
I dont know how this works for others, I just ignore/cancel their calls or just dont answer.
March 31st, 2006 at 7:49 am
We have been harrassed by 1-866-615-5583 and were trying to find out what company this was, thanks to your site we now know.
Thank you for your help. You think being a bank (RBC) they’d have more “Class” / “Integrity”.
Just goes to show ya!
Thanks Again!
March 31st, 2006 at 9:49 am
I have heard that many of these calls are intended only to build a profile on your number.
The reason they hang up is because they only called to see if anyone is home or if they get an answering machine, they then record this data and give it to the telemarketers who build a best time to call profile.
Anyone know if this is true ?
April 3rd, 2006 at 11:14 am
My hearing aid does an odd thing. When one of these calls comes in, I answer it. Then, without warning my hearing aid emits a loud whistling noise into the phone. It is almost like a referee’s whistle. I have had my hearing aid to the clinic who tells me it is working well. He says it must be the telemarketers equipment interfering with mine. I have to agree. Seems they quit calling.

Misty Fritz, who fell to my spam catcher by using the word ‘pharmacy’, sorry about that Misty, says:
The number 1-800-801-5468 has been calling me dozens of times over the last few weeks. They sometimes even call 2 or 3 times in one day. The company claims to be RX Pharmacy calling about “the order I placed for Levitra” – which is an erectile deficiency drug that would be useless for me, seeing as I am FEMALE. When I try to tell them that I did not place an order, they say “then how did you order?” I get frustrated, tell them to take me off their list, and hang up. Lately I have simply been rejecting their calls. Because I am on the National Do Not Call Registry, I filed a complaint report at http://www.donotcall.gov about a week ago, but the calls have not stopped.
April 22nd, 2006 at 10:46 am
I came across this page when googling “gemma communications” and spam on yahoo.
About the junk picker uppers that spam the blog owner. I’ve been getting calls from 1-800-got-junk. These bastards are relentless, saying they’re going to be in my area and do pick-ups of junk. Funny thing about that, what most people call junk, I call my furniture! XD
But anyways, aboot Gemma, they’ve been spamming me with this number here: 1-800-931-8706. Then today, I get hit with this one: 1-866-310-6712. I’m guessing it’s the same thing,Gemma. But Icalled it back and got nowhere, it just wouldn’t let me through. It would ring a few times, then a robot voice told me the call cannot go through. It wasn’t staticy like if you call an 8xx number that can’t be reached from your area, no, it sounded much more ‘professional’. I’ve googled, yahoo’d, reverse phone directory’d, but have gotten nowhere with that last number.
If Gemma was so ****ing legit, why wouldn’t they display their name with their number huh? Obviously Gemma is a scam company, and I wouldn’t put it past them that they’re “phishing” as well.

I was getting three or four calls a day–ARGH!
BUT I finally thought of something to stop them–and it worked–I have not have one call since last Thursday.
I downloaded from the internet a .wav file for the phone company’s recording “da-da-DA–The number you have reached has been disconnected. If you think you have reached this number in error…”
THEN, I changed my greeting to this .wav file. (I held my phone up to my computer speaker, played the .wav file and recorded it as my greeting.) Of course, I told all my friends what I was doing so they wouldn’t freak.
After I changed my greeting, I got one more phone call from that 866 number. That was the LAST time they called!
Hurrah! I think I’ve beat them!

Thank you for this website, like others have posted, I googled 866 615 5583 and found you. Repeat caller, never leaves a message and we don’t pick-up/answer numbers we don’t know on the call display.

After reading the info in this site I decided to answer the infamous call from 866-615-5583.
A woman identify herself as a representative of the credit card CIBC essentially offer me **service foyer** I only need to confirm with her by phone and they will charge $8.99 plus taxes per month to my credit card for this service that she claims is not another useless insurance, they provide a list of repairmen, thus if I am not satisfied with the reparation or renovation done to my home they could reimburse up to $500, if my house is hit by an asteroid they will pay also up to $500 for my stay in a Hotel or dump of their choice, …etc etc.
Well, I was just polite to the lady and told her I am not interested.
What it is obvious is that the banks are using this telemarketing company to do their sells of useless services and insurance.

I came across this site after a weird call to my cellular. I did a reverse search on 411.ca to figure out who it was calling me from so far away. After that turned up nothing, i googled the number (514-876-9224) and got to where i am now. I dont get how a telemarketer, or as this one appears to be, a credit card thing, would have access to a cellular phone number. When i picked up the phone, whoever was trying to harrass me hung up, so i guess ill never know. This site cleared it up a little, atleast i know it wasnt an important long distance call..

866-615-5583 has called me four times so far today alone. It’s getting old in a hurry.
Is there someone I can lodge a formal complaint with, or do we have no recourse but to put up with it?
April 27th, 2006 at 9:11 pm
I’ve been getting calls from an Edmonton number, has anyone else? It comes up as “out of area” as with the Gemma and other spammers. I thought it might be someone trying to get ahold of me, but the thing is, I don’t know anyone outside of Ontario!
May 4th, 2006 at 6:06 pm
I’ve been getting calls on my cell from 866-615-5583 for the past week and even when I pick up, they never say anything, so i did a search and found this site (don’t we love google and caller ID?)
just called back the number as per comments left here to take myself off the list.
i’ve been pretty lucky with my cell not being on ANY calling lists (and i haven’t had a landline for years), so this is slightly worrisome.
However, I think the power of the people — and the internet — will make annoyances like this a breeze to curb, one person at a time.
ya think if we call the media on this, they’d do any good? any major business (like RBC) won’t be able to sustain the bad press and have to back down.

866-615-5583
I had followed the instruction (to have my cell phone removed from the list) on Wednesday night, May 3, 2006. Does not work. I got six more calls or more per day since then. On Wednesday night, I also checked my carrier and the operator had said there’s no way they could prevent it from happening. However, they will provide me with new cell number — free of charge, because this kind of call is harassing.
I think the fact the I had inputted my number into their system (thinking that I could get my cell phone removed from the list) had convinced the 866-615-5583 people to try again and again and again.

Per last post from Wayne, I called the number back & listened to their fabulous message that I had reached the Nat’l Do Not Call registry, simply enter my 10 digit number & I will be removed from their lists. Stupidly I did and like Wayne, they keep calling back, never leaving a msg and since I keep phone on vibrate during work day, I never pick it up. I thought not having a land line would be a benefit but it seems that in the past month or so I’m on everybody’s list. Anyone else thinking this may go right back to the carrier, in our case, Telus?

Hey, I love it.
This website can be a real winner.

Thanks for this site!
866.310.6712 just started with me on our biz lines yesterday and again this morning.
Oddly we answered and dead silence on the other end. Would love to hear what others
have to say about these folks.
Just to be safe, I’m charging up my air raid siren to blast into the phone.

Thanks for your efforts!! The Royal Bank 866-615-5583 has been pissing me off for weeks now, BUT thanks to your site and comment number 15 (thank you Sean Braid!!), I’ve called back the number, entered my own phone number…and I am off their list! So they say…we’ll see.
May 11th, 2006 at 8:11 pm
1-866-615-5583 keeps calling me and no message. I called the number to see who it was and followed the prompts to be taken off the list. But I am still on it! They keep calling anyway!!
May 15th, 2006 at 1:20 pm
Thanks for the site and comments (too bad there’s a need!) Another solution that has worked pretty well (except for having to pay for it) is a separate voice mail number to act as a firewall. The number I give out doesn’t actually ring anyplace. Mine’s based in the states and since May 2 there have been over 10 no-message-left attempts by 866-615-5583, with up to 5 on one day. Aren’t there laws against this kind of harassment? It’s a surprise that customers can’t request their phone company to block (or allow) certain numbers, for any reason. Technically that would have to be a simple service to offer and surely popular.

Got an 888 number on my caller id yesterday. ‘Unknown Name’ left no message. Searched and came up with this site. According to the information here (thanks very much!) it was probably the Liberals “from the East”. Figured I’d call back and get off the list but I have a VoIP number and the 888 number isn’t accepting my call from my provider’s area code. Funniest is that they dialed a Vancouver number to reach me — duh.
Good luck to the rest of you. Before I, too gave up on a landline I had a cheap piece of equipment that was effective at foiling the automatically dialed calls from various annoying telemarketers. It works by detecting that there’s a machine dialing when the phone rings. What it does then, is sends a tone back to the calling machine’s system that gives your number’s status as Out Of Order (or equivalent). They just hate to waste their precious time using the machine to dial nonexistent numbers, so you get taken off the lists pretty darn quick and you don’t have to waste YOUR time doing so. Ha. It’s called a Zapper. Mine came from Radio Shack back when they were called that. If you get one, be warned, you’ll get calls that appear to be abandoned when you answer, but really: You GOT one of them! Feels better than wading through CID lists for that real call you missed.
If you don’t have the cash for that device, and want to have some fun (and probably get off the list as well) here’s something else I’ve done: tell the caller that the person they’ve asked for is busy, then that they’ll be ‘right there’. Leave the phone off the hook, crank the music and wait. Once in a while, go back and say something like ’sorry, he’s almost done. Can you wait?’ They’ll say ’sure’. Leave the phone off hook until you hear the annoyingly loud tone (keep your ears away) that indicates the other end FINALLY gave up. I did this once and the guy waiting at least 5 minutes, maybe 10 (we were eating dinner). You won’t hear back from them because they are all about making tons of calls to get one new fish on the line. By keeping the line and the caller tied up, you’ve ruined their quotas.
If you do pick up a call and you want to be taken off the list, I think you have to do more than say ‘don’t call me anymore’. I used to take the caller’s name and his supervisor’s name and specifically state I wanted to be put on the ‘do not call’ list.
In general, I just don’t answer calls that don’t show a name with the number. Good luck. Thanks for the site.

Got a call from 800-801-5468 twice in one week, looked it up on google, cause none of my friends ever call from an 800 number, and found this site! Glad i found it, it was very informative… I also filed a complaint on the Do Not Call Registry
Keep up the great work…

I keep gettting calls almost every single day from the number 866-310-6712, i like to call it the “phantom called”.
i dont have caller ID either, so i always rush to the phone thinking its for me but when i pick up the phone and say hello, there is no one on the other end, hence “phantom”. so now whenever this call comes through i wait untill whoever is on the other line hangs up, then i *69 them and every time its the number shown above. if anyone knows what company/bussiness this number is from please respond to my comment, so i can look them up on the net and find a number i can contact them by so i can give them a piece of my mind! and hopefully my fist.
thank you

For Canadian residents I was able to find an online form for phone/fax/mail removal. However; this only applies to members of the Canadian Marketing Association (thankfully including the biggest offender I know: Royal Bank). The site also has a link that lists members and it is quite extensive. >> https://cornerstonewebmedia.com/cma/submit.asp

Keep getting 877 990-3599 wanting money for political party, National something?
December 2nd, 2006 at 5:48 am
This phone number 877-990-3599 leaves a message that they are from the IRS with an important business matter. I hope this website isn’t a further way to contact me.
December 2nd, 2006 at 5:51 pm
Hey since they put on my voice mail twice that they were from the IRS with an important business matter can I sue them for fraud!? I reported them to the Do Not Call list but they gotta be called out on their phoney scare tactis to get me to call them back.
December 2nd, 2006 at 7:57 pm
Yes, that 877-990-3599 certainly represents itself as a lot of things. Being Canadian I can’t speculate about whether you can sue them for fraud, but from what I see in the media I suppose you can sue them for any damn thing you want. One weaselly thing I can imagine they might do is that if they actually did call themselves “IRS”, they can say it stands for something else — “Iberian Rat Sniffers” or whatever.
And no, I’m just a guy who got irritated too many times, I certainly am not sharing any information with anyone.
December 9th, 2006 at 1:29 pm
Now I get a letter from them it’s ERS they slur the E to sound like IRS on the voice mail machine!
December 20th, 2006 at 7:39 am
I reported them to donotcall.gov and they are still calling using other phone numbers now good grief! Do I need to report all of the numbers they are calling from? Lately it’s been Unavailable so it’s them but no number to report them with.

877-990-3599 is the toll free number of the place where I used to work: Ipsos-Insight, a public opinion company. Sure, they’re not in the business of selling anything, but I know for a fact that they annoy the hell out of a lot of people trying to get them to do their mostly inane and useless surveys. They do surveys for a variety of clients, so you may hear differing names if someone calls from that number. Anyway, the managers at the call centre are Alan Gates at (204)975-3126 (also on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/sliiiiip – can you tell by the picture that he is an immature loser?) and Joyce Erickson (204)975-3347. As they work in the public opinion field, I think they would love to hear the opinions of the public!

There’s a rather fun site called http://whocalled.us/ which accepts reports of annoying calls. It’s useful in order to see who called you as there are user-added comments about the numbers. It’s also useful just to vent a bit about an annoying caller.
But the best bit is just starting to happen: it has recently grown an API so you can access it as an automated service. I’m using it to do lookups from Asterisk (open source PBX) when calls come in. If the “annoyance score” is too high for a given caller, I have Asterisk dump them into telemarketer hell. Yessss!!
